Test Results
- It is your responsibility to make sure you know the results of the test(s) you have had
- The best way to view your results are via the NHS App or our Patient Online Service (SystmOnline)
- You can also call the surgery between 10:00 to 18:00 for your results but we ask you try the above methods first to free up the lines for those who do not have access to a smart phone or the internet.
- Please wait at least 3 days before phoning for blood test results
- Please wait at least 10 days before phoning for X-ray results
An approximate number of working days for tests arranged by the surgery:
- Blood tests – two to seven working days unless otherwise advised
- X-Ray – 10 working days (but can take longer)
- Urine test – seven working days
- Stool (poo) test – seven working days
- Smear test – two to three weeks
- Ultrasound – if ‘routine’ within six weeks, if urgent within two weeks
- Cancer investigations – one week
- For investigations ordered by a hospital, please ask at the hospital how they intend to provide the result to you.
Please note that we do have a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. In this respect we will only give out results to the person they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for their release or if they are not capable of understanding them.
If you’re having a test for more than one condition, the results may come back at different times.
The surgery will contact you about your test results. Information maybe provided via text or you may be asked to make a routine telephone appointment to discuss results. Please note that this may be within a 4-6 week timescale. If there are significant concerns about your results the surgery will contact you urgently.
Abnormal Results
If you receive an 'abnormal' test result, please bare in mind that it may not always be a cause for concern. There are many medical reasons to explain why an 'abnormal' result is actually in fact a 'normal' result.
